Jugaron Como Nunca: Boys Soccer Overcome the Season

(They Played Like Never Before: Boys Soccer Overcome the Season)

November 15, 2019

The soccer program here at Hug is quite a competitive sport, held together by a particularly supportive team.

Throughout the Fall season, the Hug team had to overcome a lot of big obstacles such as playing against new players at competing schools. This meant that they had to learn how each and every member of the Hug team played in their own way in order to work better as a team to play a good game.

“One of the challenges was losing to teams we knew we could defeat or had bad results with,” says Senior Sebastian Zambrano. “But one of the things we have improved throughout the season would be how we played the game. We started playing the game very calm but also applied the pressure we needed to score.”

Senior Jaime Mora says “one of the biggest challenges would have to have been getting our heads straight, and to focus our eye on what’s most important: winning state.”

The soccer season was a huge deal because it really showed the passion they had to win. It also helped a lot of kids realize what they need to improve on in the future. Jaime says, “throughout the season we improved a lot such as our touches and communication in the games.”

Ultimately making it to playoffs and ending the season with a 9-4-4 overall record, the soccer season gave the players great experiences,  such as friendships they never thought they would have, as well as giving each other the opportunity to gain trust in one another.

The season may be over, however, our soccer players are going to continue following their passion on and off the field.
